"BIBLE ORIGAMI," by Todd Huisken, Cedar Fort, $12.99, 93 pages (nf)
Todd Huisken has been a long-time lover of folding paper. In his latest origami book, titled “Bible Origami,” he merges biblical history with paper-folding and the result is a fun way to think about and interact with Bible stories.
“Bible Origami” is divided into Old Testament and New Testament sections. Each section has three levels of origami designs that can delight all ages and genders. In the Old Testament section, Huisken teaches folders how to make things like a serpent, ark, the Tower of Babel and the Ten Commandments tablets. The New Testament origami patterns include things like a manger, a dove and a fig tree.
The beginning of the book has a short section explaining different types of folds, helping even a novice understand simple origami. While the easy patterns are straightforward and often require only a handful of steps, some of the tougher patterns may require more patience and thought.
And there are a few patterns that require putting several different origami designs together, creating an outcome that is truly amazing. Despite the time involved, even the most difficult of designs is relatively simple compared with many other origami books.
With 26 origami designs, this book can please not only origami lovers but also those who are looking to add a different spin on familiar Bible stories. Creating a design with biblical meaning behind it can help those who enjoy visuals to understand the Bible more. This book is also a fun way to add a hands-on experience for anyone reading or telling Bible stories.
