SALT LAKE CITY — Dick Vermeil, who led the St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl championship and UCLA to a Rose Bowl title, headlines Utah football’s annual coaches clinic. This year’s gathering is set for Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the Eccles Football Center on Guardsman Way.

“He does a wonderful job,” said Pablo Cano, director of player personnel for the Utes. “It’s not every day you get to hear a guy like that speak.”

The 80-year-old Vermeil has won “Coach of the Year” recognition at the high school, junior college, NCAA and NFL levels. The latter included leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl and a successful stint with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Besides Vermeil, other speakers at this year’s clinic include former Oakland Raiders coach Mike White, who was National Coach of the Year at California and Illinois, as well as Jeffrey Sims, head coach at NJCAA champion Garden City in Kansas.

Additional speakers include prep head coaches Dameon Jones (Chaminade-Madonna High School, Florida), Arnold Ale (Carson High School, California), Ricklan Holmes (Tyler High School, Texas), Jeff Rayburn (Lone Star High School, Texas) and Rod York (Miliani High School, Hawaii).

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff are also featured. Clinic participants are invited to attend the Utes’ practice on Saturday from 9:30-11:15 a.m.

The cost of the clinic is $35 per coach or $280 for a staff of up to 10 coaches. Online registration is available at utahfootballcamp.com or by e-mailing Gianna Colosimo at gcolosimo@huntsman.utah.edu. Registration cutoff is Wednesday, April 5, at 11:30 p.m.
