The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon rebuild an Idaho meetinghouse that was destroyed by fire last December.

Construction on the Swan Valley LDS church building could begin in the coming weeks with some modifications, according to a report Monday by EastIdahoNews.com.

"The new church will feature a different type of layout, different from what would be considered a typical LDS church," LDS spokeswoman Sharon Parry told EastIdahoNews.com. "We have a smaller congregation, so there isn’t a need for as many classrooms and offices."

Once the building's previous remains are removed, constructing the new meetinghouse may take up to 18 months, the East Idaho News article states.

The Palisades LDS Ward building was destroyed by a blaze on Dec. 6, as reported by the Deseret News.

"There have been a lot of tears," Ririe Idaho Stake President Boyd S. Foster told the Deseret News after the fire. "It’s an emotional time for [Palisades Ward] members. Everyone in this valley has a connection to that building."

Since the fire, church members have held church meetings in the Swan Valley Elementary School. The next closest LDS meetinghouse is about 30 miles away, according to the East Idaho News.

The cause of the fire has not been released, but officials don't believe foul play was involved, the East Idaho News reported.
