SNOWBIRD — A 54-year-old experienced skier died Wednesday shortly after arranging to meet his wife for a day on the slopes.

Ski patrol found Daryl Norton, of Salt Lake City, facedown outside the groomed area of Chip's Run at Snowbird about 10 a.m., said Unified police detective Ken Hansen.

Bruising on Norton's chest could indicate trauma or may have been caused by a medical issue, Hansen said. Patrollers and investigators found no evidence the skier hit anything, and there were no witnesses.

Ski patrol attempted to resuscitate Norton, and a medical helicopter transported him to a hospital about 10:30 a.m.

Hansen said Norton was an experienced skier. A half-hour before he was found, Norton had called his wife and arranged to meet up with her at the resort, the detective said.
