"My first day here it was obvious that Utah is a soccer state. The fans and support for the game [are] unbelievable. – Seth Trembly

Utah Valley University women's soccer coach Chris Lemay has announced the hiring of Seth Trembly as an assistant coach. Trembly comes to UVU after four seasons as an assistant coach for the men's soccer team at the University of California San Diego.

"Bringing a coach as qualified as Seth onto the staff and into our program makes a statement about the expectations and excitement for our women's soccer team," said Lemay. "Seth has represented our country on the men's national team and has played in the MLS. He has won national championships as a coach. His network will continue to expand our recruiting horizons and his experiences will allow our players a real understanding of what it takes to play at the very highest level. I could not be happier to welcome my friend to UVU. With the addition of Seth, along with Alyssa, Kyle and Rachel, I really believe that our staff can match up with any in the country."

Trembly comes to Utah Valley after working the past four years as an assistant coach for the men's team at UC San Diego where he most recently helped the team to its best record in program history (19-3-2) and a first-place finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. His 2016 team also claimed the CCAA Tournament championship and made a run to the Final Four of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Trembly was a member of the UCSD staff that earned Western Region Coaching staff of the year in 2016. Trembly helped UCSD to four successive CCAA Tournament appearances and earned NCAA Championship berths in three of the past four years (2013, 2014, 2016).

Trembly has also had coaching stints with the LA Galaxy OC, San Diego Surf, Albion Soccer Club, Colorado Rush Soccer Club and the Colorado Girls Soccer Academy. He was named the Cal South Coach of the Year in 2014 after leading the San Diego Surf to the U.S. Youth Soccer national title.

"I'm very excited and honored to join the UVU women's soccer program and the Wolverine family," said Trembly. "I would like to thank head coach Chris Lemay and Dr. Jared Sumsion for the opportunity to work with this very talented group of Wolverine players and coaches. Chris' passion for creating an environment for student-athletes to be successful on and off the field is inspiring to be a part of. I look forward to helping the team continue pushing for new heights."

Trembly had an accomplished playing career at both the professional and international levels. He was part of the original 1999 class at the Bradenton (Florida) Academy. A member of the U.S. U-17 national team residency program, he trained with future team USA regulars Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Kyle Beckerman, Oguichi Onyewu and Bobby Convey. That side placed fourth at the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship in New Zealand, with Trembly starting four of six games at left back. It later earned the title of U.S. Soccer's Team of the Decade.

In 1999, Trembly signed a Project-40 contract with Major League Soccer, known these days as Generation Adidas, and was allocated to his hometown team, the Colorado Rapids. He appeared in 52 matches for the Rapids through the 2004 campaign. From there, Trembly joined the expansion Real Salt Lake, scoring twice in 22 games played in 2005-06. He received the RSL Humanitarian of the Year award for 2006, and he finished his competitive career with the Montreal Impact, then of the United Soccer League (USL) in 2007.

"I'm thrilled to be back in Utah," said Trembly. "My first day here it was obvious that Utah is a soccer state. The fans and support for the game [are] unbelievable. I can't wait to see the UVU Wolverine soccer fans in action. I'd also like to thank University of California San Diego, head coach Jon Pascale and the coaching staff, student-athletes and all the fans for the wonderful memories."

A native of Littleton, Colorado, Trembly attended Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, after returning home from the Bradenton Academy. Having signed a professional contract with the Rapids in between his junior and senior years, he trained with the club while at the same time completing his high school curriculum.
