Dixie State men’s golf landed three players on the 2016-17 All-Pacific West Conference Men's Golf Team, as announced on Monday by the conference office based on voting by the league's head coaches. Sophomore Nicklaus Britt was voted first team all-conference, while junior Dane Nelson earned second-team honors and freshman Jayce Frampton was named to the third team.
Britt (6-foot-4, Fillmore, Utah/Millard HS) has played in all 10 events this season and currently leads the team with a 72.41 scoring average through 27 competitive rounds. He posted three top-five finishes and a team-high 11 rounds of par or better on the year, including a record-setting effort at the PacWest Championships last month. Britt broke DSU’s 18 (63), 36 (134) and 54-hole (202) scoring records en route to a runner-up individual finish, which garnered him PacWest all-tournament honors. Britt also placed tied for third at the Notre Dame de Namur Argonaut Invitational and tied for fourth at the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invite last fall, which earned him PacWest Player of the Week honors.
Nelson (6-1, Farmington, Utah/Davis HS), who earned first-team all-conference last season, recorded three top-15 showings this spring, including a fifth-place finish at NDNU, and a solo seventh-place result at the PacWest Championships to earn all-tournament recognition. He carded a career-low 6-under 66 in the second round at the PacWest tournament, and he is second on the team in scoring average at 73.94 through six spring events with six rounds of par or better.
Frampton (6-0, Centerville, Utah/Viewmont HS) has enjoyed a banner freshman season as he is the only Trailblazer to date to have played in every tournament (10) and competitive round (28) on the year. He is currently fourth on the team in scoring average at 74.93 and is tied with Nelson for second on the team with six rounds of par or better. Frampton recorded his lone top-10 finish with an eighth-place result at the UC San Diego SoCal Intercollegiate in March, which earned him PacWest Player of the Week honors, and he fired a career-best 5-under 67 at Colorado Mesa last fall.
Dixie State, which earned its ninth-straight NCAA Division II regional tournament berth, continues play at the West/South Central Regional Championships through this Wednesday in Stockton, California.
