BRIGHAM CITY — A former Salt Lake County sheriff's sergeant facing sexual abuse charges is scheduled to be in court next week.

Jamie Widdison, 44, was charged in 1st District Court in March with one count of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony. He faces a scheduling hearing July 17.

According to charging documents, Widdison is accused of forcing a female to perform a sex act. Charging documents did not state the age of the female, saying only that she was "14 years of age or older."

The alleged crime took place between May 2009 and sometime in 2013 in Box Elder County, according to the charges.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Cammie Skogg said Monday that Widdison was a sergeant working in the Salt Lake County Jail when the office learned of the investigation in January. At the time, Widdison was placed on paid administrative leave.

Widdison resigned from the office on March 27, Skogg said. Charges were filed March 24.

Randall Cox, one of the attorneys representing Widdison, declined comment on the case Monday.
