WEST JORDAN — City manager Mark Palesh, who came out of retirement in September 2015 to help the city secure a voting membership on the Salt Lake City Board of Airports, institute a line-item budget and settle several lawsuits, is once again stepping aside.
David R. Brickey, who was appointed city attorney in February 2016, will serve as interim city manager. And in a 7-0 vote last week, the City Council appointed Russ Wall as deputy city manager.
The council does not plan to fill the city manager position until after the November election and a new City Council takes office in January. Palesh will continue to serve in an advisory role for the next several months.
“Because the city manager is the City Council’s only employee, it makes sense to allow the newly elected City Council to select a new city manager,” Mayor Kim Rolfe said in a statement. “In the interim, we are confident that (Wall) and (Brickey) will keep the city moving forward in a professional and efficient manner.”
Wall has held a variety of positions in both the public and private sectors, including two terms as Taylorsville’s mayor and one on the City Council. He also served as Salt Lake County’s director of public works and as a small-business owner.
