PROVO — Rockwell Ice Cream may be newer on the Wasatch Front ice cream scene, but the shop is holding its own.

The ice cream shop, located in the heart of Provo just north of Center Street on University Avenue, opened its doors in November 2015, according to a previous Daily Herald article.

According to the article, Rockwell uses local products to make the homemade, super premium all-natural ice cream.

“We really wanted to match the old-fashioned homemade ice cream and so we make everything from scratch at the back of the store in our kitchen,” owner Justin Williams told the Herald.

We gave Rockwell Ice Cream a 3 out of 4 scoops.

Rockwell offers a variety of flavors, many of which are fairly unique, such as s’mores to honeycomb to snickerdoodle, and others that are more basic, such as vanilla bean and mint chocolate chip. But for any fruit lovers out there, though, there was only one fruity flavor — strawberries and cream — available on the menu the day I went in.

The employee recommended Muddy Buddy and Biscoff as the store’s top sellers and scooped up ample servings of each in two single cones. Both flavors were thick and creamy, chock-full of mix-ins and incredibly rich, to the point that it would have been difficult to finish any serving larger than a single scoop.

According to the menu, Muddy Buddy has a milk chocolate base with peanut butter swirls and Chex Muddy Buddy treats mixed in, but the base definitely has a dark chocolate, bitter taste to it. I was skeptical at first of the Muddy Buddy texture with ice cream, thinking the mix-in would become soggy, but the Chex treats maintained a bit of a crunch and were a welcomed surprise. The peanut butter swirls were present but subtle, and the flavor was unlike anything else I’ve seen at other stops along the tour.

Anyone who enjoys Biscoff cookie spread needs to go to Rockwell. Their Biscoff ice cream has a vanilla base with swirl after swirl of Biscoff spread and chunks of Biscoff cookies, and the result was simply divine.

The atmosphere at Rockwell’s is trendy but comfortable, with exposed brick, tables that look like barrels, brightly colored metal chairs and statement light fixtures, and the seating area was clean despite the large crowds at times.
