SALT LAKE CITY — University of Utah stakeholders are invited to attend events Sept. 11-12 intended to solicit public input on the search for a new university president.
Public comment will help the U. Presidential Search Committee shape a position announcement, the primary advertisement for the position used in recruiting candidates.
The meetings will be conducted at:
Sept. 11 — 3-4 p.m. at the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics, 15 S. 2030 East.
Sept. 12 — 3-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. in the Moot Courtroom at the U.'s S.J. Quinney College of Law, 383 S. University St.
Once the position announcement is completed, the search committee will recruit candidates, screen applications and conduct interviews of potential finalists.
The search committee will announce names of finalists to the Utah State Board of Regents, possibly in spring 2018.
For more information about the search process, to review a draft of the position announcement, and to provide feedback to the search committee, visit the new presidential search page at presidentsearch.utah.edu.
The search committee is co-chaired by board of regents member Harris Simmons and University of Utah board of trustees Chairman H. David Burton.
The committee is comprised of key constituent groups of the University of Utah, including regents, university trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members.
In May, U. President David Pershing announced he was moving up the timetable of his planned retirement in the aftermath of a high-profile rift between University of Utah Health and Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Pershing, the 15th president of Utah's flagship public university, will return to a faculty position at the conclusion of a presidential search. He will serve as president until his successor is appointed.
