OGDEN — Students of all ages will have the chance to explore the fun side of science, technology, engineering and math, as Weber State University and the Utah Air Force Association sponsor the Live Division II Rube Goldberg Competition at noon on Jan. 19 in the Shepherd Union Ballroom.
“The Rube Goldberg Contest really brings STEM home to kids,” Dana Dellinger, director of the Center of Technology Outreach for the College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology, said in a statement. “They are applying what they learn in school in a fun hands-on project, using problem solving, teamwork, engineering and loads of creativity.”
Rube Goldberg machines, named after the comic Rube Goldberg, involve a complex chain of events leading to the accomplishment of a simple task. Last year six schools competed in the annual event. This year 13 teams will compete in three divisions (high school, junior high and elementary) The task this year is to pour a bowl of cereal.
Admission to the competition is free, and the public is welcome.
