SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is the nicest state on a new “naughty or nice” list based on a new study.

What’s happening: The mobile shopping app Ibotta — which “got the scoop straight from the North Pole,” according to a press release — ranked all 50 states on a “naughty or nice list.”

  • The report identified consumer purchases of milk, cookies, carrots, candy canes and eggnog in the weeks before Christmas for the last three years.

Nice: Utah ranked as the nicest state, meaning it “should expect pounds of presents in Santa's sleigh,” according to a press release.

  • The report found Utahns bought more cookies, milk and carrots combined than any other state.

Naughty: Maine ranked as the naughtiest state in the country since its residents bought the least amount of cookies, milk and carrots. Wisconsin, Mississippi and North Dakota ranked among the naughtiest states as well.

Other state facts: Residents in South Dakota and Alaska bought the most candy canes and eggnog.

  • Residents in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut bought the most cookie baking supplies (flour, sugar, eggs and chocolate chips) for the week before Christmas.
  • Louisiana residents buys more packaged cookies than any other state.
  • Ohioans spend the most money at the grocery store during the week before Christmas. Those in Oregon and Washington, meanwhile, spend the least.

  • Milk is cheapest on Dec. 18.
  • Flour and sugar are cheapest on Dec. 19.
  • Cookies are cheapest on Dec. 22.
  • Carrots cheapest on Dec. 23.
