RIVERTON — If your New Year's resolution is to drop the extra pounds you put on over the holidays, the city is ready to help during its annual weight-loss competition dubbed Mission "Slim" Possible.

The friendly competition — which began in 2010 — aims to help participants stay committed to their fitness goal. It will begin with a weigh-in on Wednesday, Jan. 2, and run through Thursday, Feb. 28.

Participants are responsible for their own fitness and nutrition programs but will be weighed weekly as part of the competition at the city's Parks and Recreation Office, 12830 S. Redwood Road. Individuals 18 years old and older are eligible to participate, as well as those 17 years old or younger who provide a doctor's note.

"The program has been a great way for people to get committed to their health and fitness goals," said Kevin Willett, recreation coordinator for Riverton. "Everyone that has finished the program has lost weight. It’s great to see people feel better about themselves."

All who participate will receive a free two-week membership to both Anytime Fitness in Riverton and Riverton’s Fit Body Bootcamp, as well as entry into the Riverton Half Marathon and 4Life 5K in March. Cost is $30 per participant.
