SANDY — A 14-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in critical condition after he fell from the Ferris wheel at Scheels sporting goods store in Sandy on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said he was unsure of the height the boy fell from or what led to the fall from the ride inside the store at 11282 S. State. He noted police don't think it was under suspicious circumstances, but the cause of the fall is currently under investigation.

Police said the boy has autism and was at the Ferris wheel with his father when the incident occurred. Multiple 911 calls were placed to report the fall at around 3:00 p.m.
