SALT LAKE CITY — The Backstreet Boys have a new album, and they just unveiled the secret to such prolonged success.
Brian Littrell and AJ McLean sat down with NPR to talk about the new album, which already earned a Grammy nomination with the song “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”
Addiction: McLean said staying in the band so long isn’t easy. He said he was surprised to still be in the entertainment business at age 41.
- “I just turned 41. To be 41 and still be sitting here talking to you is a miracle within itself. With drugs and alcohol and all these things that I've had to overcome, it will forever be a daily struggle. And that's why we've always prided ourselves on just being honest with our fans and being honest with each other.”
Family: McLean said the band members are like family, which helped them through their struggles.
- “We're family, we're brothers, we've seen the highs and lows with each other. We've been through everything together. We're all fathers now, we're all married. We've literally lived lives together — good, bad or indifferent.”
Elsewhere: The band made headlines elsewhere this week for performing as chickens on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Utah: The band will arrive in Utah on Aug. 7 for a concert at Vivint Arena, according to the Deseret News.
