October is officially here, so it’s time to start thinking about Halloween candy.
Some helpful folks at candystore.com went through 12 years of nationwide candy-selling data, and they compiled some lists of America’s favorite and least favorite Halloween candies, according to a blog post from the site. Here’s what they found:
- America’s top 10 favorites.
Americans are projected to spend $2.6 billion on these and other candies this year:

- Favorite candies by state.
Candystore.com also took a look at the candies preferred by each individual state. They ranked each state by how many pounds of the candy were sold in the state over the 12-year period they studied.
Utah’s top three ranked as follows:
- Jolly Ranchers (412,745 lbs.)
- Tootsie Pops (267,545 lbs.)
- Candy Corn (221,894)
Nearby states had other preferences — for example, Wyoming’s favorite was saltwater taffy, while Californians preferred Skittles.
Candystore.com created an interactive map with each state’s top three favorites, which you can find here.
- Least favorite candies.
To make this list of least favorite Halloween candies, candystore.com surveyed 40,000 of their customers, and also used lists from sites such as Buzzfeed and HuffPost, according to this blog post from their site.
