GREENVILLE, Beaver County — A Greenville man is facing charges of attempted murder after police say he hit his brother-in-law with a pickup truck then attacked him with a pole.
Jacobson Jacob Pelt, 30, was charged in 5th District Court on Monday with two counts of attempted murder — one first degree felony and one second-degree felony — and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
Police were called to Beaver Valley Hospital just after 8 p.m. Thursday to deal with a disorderly patient. When officers arrived at the hospital they found Pelt’s brother-in-law, who was “covered in blood and appeared to be in distress,” according to charging documents.
Pelt’s brother-in-law told police that he and Pelt had been gathering wood in the yard and drinking alcohol when Pelt became angry with him, the charges say. He said Pelt got into a pickup truck, put the truck in reverse, and hit him, knocking him to the ground.
Once he was on the ground, the brother-in-law told police Pelt got out of the truck and began to hit him with a bar or pole, including hitting him on the head, according to the charges. The man said Pelt stopped hitting him and quickly drove away after Pelt’s sister, the brother-in-law’s wife, came outside.
The brother-in-law told officers he was afraid for his life while Pelt was attacking him, charging documents say.
When interviewed by investigators, Pelt said he and his brother-in-law had gotten into an argument about driving and that his brother-in-law tried to hit him first, the charges state. Pelt told police he backed the truck up into his brother-in-law, knocking him to the ground, before pulling a metal T-post out of the ground and hitting his brother-in-law four or five times with it, according to court documents.
