After 60 years, “The Twilight Zone” is coming to the big screen for the first time, according to Variety.
Since its debut on CBS on Oct. 2, 1959, the science fiction anthology series has become a pop culture icon. So to celebrate its momentous anniversary, Fathom Events and CBS Home Entertainment are coming together to host showings of six of the show’s episodes at 600 movie theaters across the country, Variety reported.
“The Twilight Zone: A 60th Anniversary Celebration” is scheduled for Nov. 14. Along with the six episodes, it will also include a short documentary celebrating the life of the show’s creator and narrator, Rod Serling, according to the event’s Fathom Events page.
“The Twilight Zone” ran from 1959 to 1964 and aired 156 episodes, according to The New York Times. The series attracted talent such as author Ray Bradbury, who wrote the episode “I Sing the Body Electric,” and actors who at the time were still up-and-coming, such as Robert Redford, Robert Duvall and Carol Burnett.
Narrowing the episodes to only six for the Nov. 14 event was not an easy process, a CBS spokesperson said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“The incredible mind of Rod Serling led to some of the most indelible moments ever created for television,” Ken Ross, CBS Home Entertainment executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “Selecting these episodes was both a great pleasure and a responsibility we took seriously, knowing how much the series means to generations of fans.”
“‘The Twilight Zone’ has inspired many filmmakers and storytellers, so it is a great honor to be able to bring these classic stories to the big screen, and to offer such an incisive look into the mind of the man who created them,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt, according to Variety.
The following episodes will be shown at the Nov. 14 event, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
- “Walking Distance,” originally aired Oct. 30, 1959
- “Time Enough at Last,” aired Nov. 20, 1959
- “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street,” aired March 4, 1960
- “Eye of the Beholder,” aired Nov. 11, 1960
- “The Invaders,” aired Jan. 27, 1961
- “To Serve Man,” aired March 2, 1962
