After a successful test launch in New York this summer, Dunkin’ has decided to move up the nationwide release of its new Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich by two months, according to CNN.
The Beyond Sausage sandwich made its debut in New York City in July, where it “exceeded our expectations,” according to a statement from Dunkin’ CEO Dave Hoffman, reported by CNN on Monday.
The new sandwich, which includes Beyond Meat’s plant-based patty as well as egg and cheese, sold twice as well as the company expected, according to CNN. What’s more, the Beyond Sausage sandwich is currently the second-bestselling menu item in Dunkin’s Manhattan stores.

Dunkin’ is the largest fast-food chain yet to offer plant-based meat alternatives on a nationwide scale, according to Business Insider.
However, they are far from the first. Earlier this year, Burger King launched the Impossible Whopper, which (like the Beyond Sausage sandwich) tested extremely well before being released nationally, leading to shortages at some locations, Business Insider reported.
Many other fast-food chains have followed suit, including Del Taco and Carl’s Jr, while even McDonald’s has announced their partnership with Beyond Meat to create the “P.L.T.” (Plant, Lettuce, Tomato) sandwich, the Deseret News reported last month.
Not only did the Beyond Sausage sandwich outperform Dunkin’s expectations, but the company also found that customers were purchasing it during all times of the day, and not just during breakfast hours, CNBC reported.
“Dunkin’ is the brand that democratizes trends for America, and this latest addition to our menu gives consumers more choice to meet their evolving needs,” Hoffman said in a statement, according to Business Insider.
Dunkin’ had originally planned to release the Beyond Sausage sandwich nationwide in January 2020, but based on the success of the test launch, it will now be released next month on Nov. 6, according to CNBC.
