BATON ROUGE, La. — The Utah State Aggies went into Death Valley on Saturday and it did not go well.

Facing the fifth-ranked LSU Tigers on the road, the Aggies never got much of anything going offensively and couldn’t contain the high-powered Tigers en route to a 42-6 loss.

Here are three takeaways that defined the game.

Little offensive production

Utah State entered Saturday ninth in the country in yards per game at 533 and tied for 19th in scoring at 38.5 points per contest, but only tallied 159 yards and the six points (no touchdowns).

Without lead back Jaylen Warren (injury), the Aggies finished with just 19 rushing yards. Additionally, wide receiver Siaosi Mariner left early on because of injury, and quarterback Jordan Love finished 15-of-30 for 130 yards with three interceptions.

Couldn’t stop LSU

While the Aggies entered Saturday with excellent offensive numbers, the Tigers came in averaging the most points in the country at 57.8 per game and the second-most yards per contest at 564.

LSU had its way for most of the game, finishing with 601 yards of total offense. Additionally, the usually quick-strike Tigers dominated the time of possession (41:03-18:57) and Utah State couldn’t stop them effectively on third down, as they finished 11-of-17.

Quarterback Joe Burrow went 27-of-38 for 344 yards with five touchdowns and one interception, while four players rushed for at least 40 yards.

Special teams

While there wasn’t much to write home about for the Aggies, kicker Dominik Eberle did make both of his field goal attempts — both came in the first quarter — as Utah State kept things close early.

Even that had a negative, however, as the Aggies were in prime position to score touchdowns both times but had to settle for just three points.
