Dom Ontiveros, of Auric Energy, lifts a solar panel onto the roof of the 1,000th home utilizing the Empower SLC Solar program in Salt Lake City on Thursday. Empower SLC Solar, a community-led program in Salt Lake County, helps residents overcome the logistical and financial hurdles of going solar. According to Utah Clean Energy, which offers the Empower SLC program, the combined participants will save a total $22 million in electricity bills and prevent 13 million pounds of CO2 annually.
