The Utah Utes will go into the 2020 football season with uncertainty at quarterback with Tyler Huntley now in his final year of eligibility, but on Thursday they received a commitment from a transfer who will add to the depth at the position.

Peyton Powell, who was part of Baylor’s 2019 signing class but entered the transfer portal in the summer, announced on Twitter that he will be transferring to Utah.

Listed by 247 Sports at 6-foot-2 and 182 pounds, Powell was considered a Top 300 recruit in the country by both that outlet and ESPN. He was designated as an “athlete” by both publications and can play wide receiver in addition to quarterback.

Should he play quarterback, Powell would join a group next season that is set to include Cameron Rising, Jason Shelley and Drew Lisk.

Powell’s commitment comes a few days after 2020 Florida high school quarterback Katravis Marsh announced he had decommitted from the Utes. The day before Marsh’s announcement, 2020 Texas high school running back John Gentry announced his commitment to Utah after announcing his decommitment from Arkansas on Nov. 10.
