Ever since artist Maurizio Cattelan taped a banana to a wall, the internet has gone crazy.
The work of art first made headlines when it was sold for $120,000. It returned to the news again a few days later when a man ate it, according to USA Today.
Celebrities are now taking the opportunity to join in on the craze, posting images of themselves mimicking the art.
Brooke Shields even posted a selfie with a banana taped to her face on Sunday. The photo was captioned, “An expensive selfie.”
Other celebrities that have mimicked Art Basel’s prized work are Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. The pair even made a pun of the art gallery’s name, taping a bagel to a canvas and calling it “Art Bagel.”
Meanwhile, Gayle King posted a photo to Instagram of the banana her crew had taped to the wall, commenting that they have many talents, “including art connoisseurs.”
While many celebrities are turning to social media to joke about the artwork and its high price, some popular companies have used it as an opportunity to advertise their own products.
Both Popeyes and Perrier have posted their own versions of Cattelan’s work; while Perrier called their product “priceless,” Popeyes stated their artwork, “The Sandwich,” would be available for $120,003.99.
