Former FBI attorney Lisa Page is “done being quiet.”
Page tweeted that statement Sunday night just hours before a new interview with The Daily Beast surfaced online. Page slammed President Donald Trump in the interview, calling his attack against her “sickening.” She said she has struggled to keep her life in order while working with him as president.
“I had stayed quiet for years hoping it would fade away, but instead it got worse,” Page told The Daily Beast. “It had been so hard not to defend myself, to let people who hate me control the narrative. I decided to take my power back.”
Her interview comes about a week ahead of the release of a report from the Justice Department about how the FBI conducted its investigation into Trump.
So who is Lisa Page and why does she matter? Here’s a quick rundown.
- Lisa Page and then-senior FBI agent Peter Strzok sent text messages to each other slamming President Trump. The two had been having an affair at the time, according to The Washington Post.
- Page and Strzok were both involved in the investigations into Hillary Clinton’s emails and the Russia investigation. They said the text messages and personal relationship did not influence their investigation.
- Page left the FBI in May 2018 after those text messages came to light. She has been attacked by Trump on Twitter ever since that time.
- Page spoke behind closed doors to lawmakers in 2018. She was celebrated for being a strong witness, according to CNN.
