The Utah Jazz’s five-game win streak came to an end Thursday night as they fell to the Atlanta Hawks 117-114 when a last-second shot from Donovan Mitchell to tie missed.
Here are three takeaways from the game.
- After a poor first half on defense, the Jazz trailed 65-54 but quickly rallied and outscored the Hawks 37-21 in the third quarter. Atlanta wouldn’t go away, though, and made the needed plays down the stretch to get the win.
- Although he missed a free throw with 6.2 seconds left to leave the door open for Utah, Hawks big man Dewayne Dedmon was outstanding in the final 1:11 of the game, as he had five points, two blocks and a rebound to help stave the Jazz off.
- Atlanta finished 19-of-40 from behind the 3-point line while Utah went just 10-of-32.
Playoff picture
The Jazz entered the night fifth in the Western Conference, but dropped to seventh with the loss. That being said, teams 5-8 (Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Utah, LA Clippers) are all tied with 42-30 records, meaning Utah’s place is a matter of tiebreakers.
