SALT LAKE CITY — You’ll probably see the redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Thursday morning, according to the Justice Department.
What's going on: As The New York Times reported, the Department of Justice will likely drop the 400-page report on Thursday morning with redactions. It will likely be available on the special counsel’s website.
- The report will have redactions that will black out sensitive information, according to The New York Times.
- When: Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will have a press conference on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET (7:30 a.m. MT) to talk about the release of the redacted version of the report, Axios reports.
- There’s no hint that the report will be unveiled before the press conference, CNBC reports.
Prepared: According to The New York Times, the White House and Justice Department officials discussed Mueller’s findings several times ahead of the release on Thursday.
- “Nearly two years after the special counsel was appointed, the public will get its most in-depth glimpse yet into what Mueller found in his investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russian interference in the 2016 election,” according to Axios.
Flashback: Last month, Barr released a four-page summary two days after he received the report. He said the report did not establish a conspiracy or coordination between President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Kremlin, according to CNBC.
- Barr said Mueller’s report “does not conclude that the President committed a crime, (but) it also does not exonerate him.”
- Barr said that the final decision on obstruction of justice was left to Barr and Rosenstein, according to CNBC.
- “The evidence developed during the special counsel’s investigation is not sufficient to establish that the president committed an obstruction of justice offense.”
President Trump and the White House have a plan in place for the report, according to Politico.
- “The goal for Thursday is to use the bully pulpit of the White House to give the appearance of a president consumed by the demands of his office,” Politico says.
- “You’ll see a lot of strong things come out tomorrow. Attorney General Barr is going to be doing a press conference. Maybe I’ll do one after that, we’ll see,” Trump said in a radio interview Wednesday, according to Politico.
- One unnamed Republican told Politico that the White House will attempt “to brush this off and move on as quickly as possible.”
Utah: Utah Rep. Chris Stewart "will be among members of Congress who receive a less-redacted version" on Thursday, the Deseret News reported.
