Free Xbox games in May include pirate parties, golf and superhero antics

SALT LAKE CITY — Microsoft has announced four new multiplayer-focused free games for the month of May via Xbox Wire, including “Marooners” and “The Golf Club 2019.”

The games come as a perk for Xbox Live Gold, which costs $59.99 annually and is required to play games online. New subscribers can also try the service out for a month for $1.

Xbox One owners can download “Marooners,” a multiplayer party game featuring pirates, and “The Golf Club 2019 Featuring PGA Tour,” which is exactly what it sounds like — a realistic golf simulator featuring real courses, events and the “coveted” FedEx Cup.

For Xbox 360, gamers can download “Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon,” an action game where players fight giant alien bugs, and the literal “Comic Jumper,” which stars Captain Smiley, a superhero who jumps between other comic books to fix problems in each world.

Xbox One owners will also be able to download Xbox 360 games via backwards compatibility. Some information regarding critical reception, advisory content and availability dates for each game are as follows:
