SALT LAKE CITY — New theories about the future of Lori Loughlin’s character on “When Calls the Heart” have filtered in.
Back in March, I wrote for the Deseret News about how the Quad-City Times outlined three theories to do with Lori Loughlin’s character Abigail Stanton, the mayor of the fictional town of Hope Valley. Hallmark cut ties with Loughlin after she was one of the parents named in the college admissions scandal.
The Quad-City Times theorizes that the show could decide to kill off Abigail from the show, which would provide a clean break for Loughlin’s character.
Other theories suggest that Hallmark may recast Loughlin, or make her character leave town, according to The International Business Times.
I posted one of my articles on “When Calls the Heart” theories on the “When Calls the Heart” sub-Reddit page. The article receive four upvotes and three comments, which were all theories from fans of the show about what can happen next.
- One Reddit user posited that Abigail would follow her current partner, pastor Frank Hogan, who left town in season five, and end up marrying him. She would bring her children with her, according to the theory.
- Another theory suggests Abigail would get trapped in a fire and the doctors would have to perform surgery on her. When she wakes up, she can be played by a new actress, allowing the show to keep the character while dropping Loughlin.
- A third Reddit user suggested that the show take another time jump. “Fast forward a few years and baby Jack is older, Elizabeth is ready to mingle again and Abigail is long gone to wherever,” the Reddit user wrote.
It’s unclear when season six of “When Calls the Heart” will return.
