SALT LAKE CITY — Sonic’s gotta go fast... straight back to the drawing board following widespread criticism.
Jeff Fowler, the director behind “Sonic the Hedgehog,” thanked fans for their criticism on Twitter, saying that the blue hedgehog’s design will be changed before the film’s November release date.
“The message is loud and clear,” he said. “You aren’t happy with the design and you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount and Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.”
Yesterday I reported for the Deseret News on fans making the best of the situation by offering their own takes on a live-action version of Sonic. Fan response to Fowler’s tweet is mostly positive, but some Twitter users are concerned it could lead to overtime work for visual effects artists or set unhealthy creative precedents.
Roger Craig Smith, the current voice of Sonic the Hedgehog for video games and movies, also offered his own spin on the changes.
