SALT LAKE CITY — Megaplex Theatres is now offering a MegaPass monthly subscription service through Atom Tickets — with some strings attached.

According to Atom’s FAQ, the membership program costs $14.99 and gives subscribers two movie tickets a month.

Passholders can also reserve their seats and get 15 percent off concessions and can use tickets to view a movie with a guest for one showtime.

Movie tickets and discounts are facilitated through the Atom Tickets app, which is available for iPhone and Android smartphones.

However, passholders are locked into a six-month contract period that prevents subscribers from canceling within that time period.

Still with us? Good.

The MegaPass also includes the PlusOne Perk, which offers six $1 discounts on additional ticket purchases. The FAQ notes that the discount can’t be used on $5 Tuesdays and benefits don’t roll over to the next month. The Megapass will also not work at the Main Street Megaplex in St. George, Utah.

Movie and seating formats included in the deal include IMAX, 3D, Dolby Atmos and DBOX, but VIP seating, double features, FATHOM events and movie marathons are not available.

In comparison, the Cinemark Movie Club offers 1 rollover ticket and 20% off on concessions for $8.99 a month and can be canceled anytime. The AMC Stubs A-List program includes 3 movie tickets a week with a 10% concessions discount for $19.95 a month. AMC’s program also requires a 3-month commitment but can be used in 35 states. MoviePass also offers one free movie a day for $14.95 a month but is subject to “excessive use” restrictions.

According to the Larry H. Miller website, Megaplex Theatres offers 180 screens across 16 locations in Utah and Nevada.
