SALT LAKE CITY — He’s here.
Universal Orlando Resort released the first images of the animatronic Hagrid that will grace the upcoming Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Ride this week.
If the robot looks super realistic, it’s because the Universal Creative team worked directly with Robbie Coltrane, the man who plays Hagrid in the “Harry Potter” films, to design him.
According to the Universal website, the Universal Creative team analyzed Coltrane’s body movements and facial expressions to develop 24 different actions for the figure.
The team hand-sculpted Hagrid’s face, ran digital scans of Coltrane’s teeth and carefully placed individual hairs for his eyebrows and lashes.
The Hagrid figure is the exact same height as Coltrane in the films: 7 feet, 6 inches tall. His outfit was also designed by the same team that created his costumes for the films.
Coltrane recorded a custom script for the ride.
Last month, Universal Studios announced that guests would also see Fluffy the three-headed dog, Cornish Pixies, centaurs and Devil’s Snare on the ride, among other magical creatures.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Ride opens on June 13 in Orlando, Florida.
