SALT LAKE CITY — Roku hosts millions of users, but it isn’t making any money, according to Engadget.
The company, which produces streaming devices for televisions, posted new financial figures that show the company is losing money, despite having a healthy user base.
Here are the highlights:
- Roku’s user base has grown to 29.1 million active users in the last three months.
- Roku users have streamed 8.9 billion hours of content, and use their Roku device for 3 1/2 hours a day on average.
- The company made $100.9 million, but operating costs have led to a $10.7 million loss, which is about $4 million more in losses compared to last year.
- The company forsees a strong financial year for the rest of 2019 and claims 1 in every 3 smart TVs sold in the United States have Roku functionality.

Part of the reason why Roku might not be worried about the loss is because of the upcoming Disney Plus launch on Nov. 12. According to the Motley Fool, Disney’s streaming service could bring in $135 million in revenue for Roku next year. By 2024, Disney Plus could add a collective $1 billion to Roku’s value as a company.
