LEHI — A hang glider died Tuesday morning after a crash at Point of the Mountain, authorities said.

Ron Holder, 59, of Rupert, Idaho, crashed shortly before 10:30 a.m. at the flight park on the south side of Point of the Mountain in Lehi, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.

It was the man's first time flying without an instructor, according to Cannon. He was there with a group.

Witnesses who saw the accident told authorities that as the man was flying, it appeared the wind died down and he turned to drop into the wind. He then dropped straight down about 50 feet and crashed, Cannon said.

The man sustained serious head injuries in the accident, according to the sergeant.
