PROVO — Twenty-eight seconds into BYU's game against No. 13 Utah saw Nate Austin hobbling off the court, clutching his right upper leg. Austin would never return to Wednesday's game.
Today, BYU coach Dave Rose announced his senior power forward tore his right hamstring. Rose expects the injury to sideline Austin at least two weeks.
The 6-foot-11 Austin has started every game this season for BYU (7-3) and is averaging 3.0 points and 5.6 rebounds.
The Cougars missed Austin's interior presence in their 65-61 loss to the Utes. Utah's frontcourt outrebounded BYU's frontcourt 15-3. All told, Utah had a 43-31 rebounding advantage.
Austin is in the BYU record books with the third most offensive rebounds and second most personal fouls in a season.
BYU will head to Ogden on Saturday to take on Weber State.
