It took awhile for former BYU guard Tyler Haws to make his NBA summer league debut Friday night in Las Vegas, but he made the most of it when he did.
Competing for the Cleveland summer league team, Haws entered the Cavaliers’ game against Golden State with 1:20 remaining in the third quarter and played the rest of the contest. He proceeded to score a team-high 12 points in the Warriors’ 83-75 victory.
Haws was efficient from outside, hitting all three of his 3-point attempts, including one in the final minute of the contest that put him in double figures.
Less than a minute after entering the game, Haws drove to the basket in transition and was fouled. The Cougars’ all-time leading scorer, as he did so often at BYU, hit both free throws.
He finished the game shooting 3-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Haws' only shooting blemish came on his first chance to reach double figures, when he missed a dunk on a fast break that would have cut the Cleveland deficit to four with just over two minutes remaining.
Haws also had one assist, one steal and one turnover for Cleveland, which will play again Saturday at 8 p.m. MDT against Brooklyn.
