According to a story by Boston.com's Henry McKenna Thursday morning, Ainge, the Boston Celtics president of basketball operations, said he reached out to McHale about joining the organization in some role.

“We’ve got a spot for him,” Ainge said. "I know we could figure something out for him in some capacity, but I think he’s just in a wait and see mode."

Ainge and McHale were teammates in Boston in the 1980s.
