Former BYU basketball player and current radio broadcaster Mark Durrant became the latest BYU personality to chide Utah basketball head coach Larry Krystkowiak, and he did so through a four-page open letter on Twitter.
The letter came in response to Krystkowiak's decision, along with Utah Athletic Director Chris Hill, to cancel the BYU-Utah basketball game supposed to take place in Provo next season. The letter was posted Monday evening, hours after a Utah basketball media availability session, in which Krystkowiak explained his decision, again citing player safety as a key issue.
"It (the rivalry) is not more 'toxic' or venomous now than it was then," Durrant wrote, citing his observations from watching the rivalry for 40 years. "Players are not less safe now. It is a ridiculous argument on its face, and is frankly insulting to the players."
Durrant played forward for BYU from 1989-1990 and 1992-1995. He is a BYU color commentator for KSL-Radio.
