PROVO — Besides defensive end Bronson Kaufusi, several other former BYU players are expected to get their shot at the National Football League this weekend either in the draft or as an undrafted free agent.

While Kaufusi is projected to be taken in the early to middle rounds of the draft, tight end Terenn Houk could be a late-round selection.

Though he was listed as a receiver when he played in the Cougars’ spread offense, Houk has drawn considerable attention from NFL teams as a flex tight end who can play outside.

One team that staged a workout for Houk, who hails from Enumclaw, Washington, was the Seattle Seahawks, which is Houk’s hometown team.

Another team that reportedly has shown considerable interest in Houk as a tight end is the Cleveland Browns.

The 6-foot-4, 229-pound Houk caught 37 passes for 490 yards and two touchdowns as a senior last fall. He has recorded a 10-foot-, 2-inch broad jump, which would have ranked him No. 2 among tight ends at the NFL Combine.

Other NFL hopefuls from BYU include wide receivers Mitch Mathews and Devon Blackmon; offensive lineman Ryker Mathews; linebackers Manoa Pikula and Teu Kautai; defensive lineman Graham Rowley; safety Michael Wadsworth; and place-kicker Trevor Samson.

Mathews and Blackmon put up impressive numbers during BYU’s Pro Day in March.

"They were really impressed, based on what they told me," Mathews said of the NFL scouts' reaction to his performance. "Everything they didn't think I could do I did. So I exceeded expectations for sure."
