SALT LAKE CITY — The Infinity Stones may not be completely gone from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo said in a recent interview that Thanos didn’t destroy the Infinity Stones. In fact, they have been reduced to a really small level, which means they could make a return in the near future.
“The stones are still present in the universe,” the brothers said, according to ComicBook.com.
Of course, Marvel fans saw the Infinity Stones multiple times through “Endgame.” The Marvel superheroes went back in time to collect them from various timelines so that they could reverse Thanos’ Snap, which eliminated half of the universe.
But the Russo brothers are specifically referencing the Infinity Stones that Thanos destroyed, which was revealed to have happened at the beginning of “Endgame.” Before Thor (Chris Hemsworth) destroyed Thanos, the villain revealed that he had destroyed the Infinity Stones since his work had been completed.
At the end of “Endgame,” Captain America ends up returning the new Infinity Stones to their various timelines (or so we’re supposed to believe).
But those original Infinity Stones may still be out there, which could pave the way for future storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
