STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR — The body of a teenage boy was recovered in Strawberry Reservoir in eastern Wasatch County Saturday afternoon.
Authorities said the county’s 911 center was alerted about a possible drowning around 3:30 p.m.
Search and rescue crews found the body of a 15-year-old boy who “had a gone under the water at Strawberry Reservoir and not resurfaced,” the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Department announced on its Facebook page.
”Today we were able to help this family in locating this young man,” said Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby.
According to Rigby, the boy’s body was found in an area of the reservoir that was 15- to 20-feet deep.
Crews brought the unresponsive boy to the shore and attempted resuscitation efforts, before moving to Soldier Creek Campground where “a lot of the life-saving, resuscitating work took place.”
”Unfortunately, crews were not able to save this young man,” he said.
His name was not released Saturday.
With three deaths at the reservoir this year, authorities are warning visitors to be especially careful.
“Strawberry Reservoir is a place where a lot of people come to have fun and we need people to wear life jackets,” Rigby said. “This family did a number of things that were right, they were together, they knew what was going on and had a plan and still bad things can happen.”
