SALT LAKE CITY — The new trailer for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” debuted Monday morning, prompting quite a reaction on Twitter.
As I wrote earlier Monday, the new “Rise of Skywalker” trailer focused on the legacy of the “Star Wars” franchise, showing clips of all “Star Wars” films in the Skywalker saga — from “A New Hope,” “Empire Strikes Back” and ”Return of the Jedi” all the way through to the prequel and sequel trilogies.
Twitter had a number of reactions to the trailer. We’ve rounded up selected tweets below.
Rey’s red lightsaber was a big mood:
Dark robes + a double-bladed red lightsaber that flips open? Rey's trip to the dark side looks awesome.#TheRiseofSkywalker pic.twitter.com/kePfalMRye

C-3PO appeared in the trailer with red eyes. Red. Eyes. Here’s how Twitter reacted:

Somebody downloaded Kazaa and Limewire on C-3PO’s mainframe. pic.twitter.com/aI8Rdif5pZ

Most people will focus on all those Star Destroyers or how Rey throws a light saber like Thor throwing a hammer, but don't sleep on C-3PO's eyes glowing red right before that monster blaster shot. I'm assuming he becomes all-powerful and, finally, kills his many tormentors. pic.twitter.com/ujJM1esDuV

Everybody's talking about that last shot in the D23 Star Wars #TheRiseOfSkywalker trailer, but does anybody want to discuss how C-3PO has finally embraced the Dark Side after eight movies of taking everybody's crap? pic.twitter.com/H7LvOuSXK1

The trailer also includes a shot of Rey and Kylo Ren fighting in the middle of an ocean with lightsabers. It’s pretty epic.
