SALT LAKE CITY — The latest “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” trailer ended with a cliffhanger — a cloaked, dark side version of Rey, holding a red-bladed lightsaber with a hilt that snaps into a double-bladed lightsaber.

Rey is staring off into the distance. She looks empty. No emotion. Almost like she’s being controlled, or she’s dreaming (which is probably the case).

But one Reddit user pointed out that Rey might not be alone in that scene.

A Reddit user posted a slow-motion clip of the final moment in the trailer. In the slowed-down clip, taken right before the lightsaber snaps into a double-bladed one, you can see a shape in the bottom right corner of the screen that certainly looks like the outline of another person.

“Look at the bottom right of GIF — because something is clearly or someone is moving away from her,” the poster wrote.

Combing through the comments, it is clear fans remain unsure about what they saw in that frame. Some speculate that the other person in the clip could be the real version of Rey, watching her dark side unfold in a Force dream. Others say the person may be wearing a cloak or cape.

The above scene — regardless of why Rey is there — is a scene that is a longn time coming, according to Inverse, which was one of the first websites to report on this Reddit post.

“Love it or hate it, ‘The Last Jedi’ was all about exploring shades of grey and acknowledging that all people, particularly Force users, have aspects of Light and Dark to them,” according to Inverse. “In that film, we saw Rey enticed by the Dark Side several times: in her conversations with Kylo Ren and during her visit to the eerie cave on Ahch-To. That cave appears to be where this moment with Dark Rey takes place.”
