OGDEN — Ogden police have identified human remains found in storage shed last week.

But the investigation into how Alice Ann Valdez, 41, died and how her body got in the shed continued Tuesday. While police could not release all the details of their investigation, Lt. Brian Eynon said the case was still considered “very suspicious.”

On Sept. 5, human remains were found inside a storage unit located at 2868 Grant Ave. in Ogden.

Investigators don’t know how long Valdez was in the shed before being discovered. But based on the advanced stage of decomposition, Eynon said it was likely a long time. Detectives identified her using fingerprint records, he said.

The storage shed Valdez was found in was abandoned. The owners of the business were cleaning out the shed due to nonpayment, Eynon said. Detectives were in the process Tuesday of tracking down the last renter of the unit.

Police say the investigation is “still in its preliminary stages with very few leads.”

According to court records, Valdez was a transient with a lengthy history of misdemeanor crimes, mostly involving trespassing and drug use.

She has not had any charges or arrests in Utah since 2017.
