NBCUniversal announced its new streaming service Tuesday, naming it “Peacock,” a reference to the NBC logo design.
Launch date: The subscription service will launch in April with 15,000 hours of content.
Shows: Shows included on “Peacock” at launch include “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation.”
- Other shows include: “30 Rock,” “Bates Motel,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Cheers,” “Covert Affairs,” “Downton Abbey,” “Everyone Loves Raymond,” “Frasier,” “Friday Night Lights,” “House,” “King of Queens,” “Married… With Children,” “Monk,” “Parenthood,” “Psych,” “Royal Pains,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Superstore,” “The Real Housewives” and “Will & Grace.”
New shows and reboots: TVLine reports that a “Battlestar Galactica” reboot will join the streaming service. “Dr. Death,” “Brave New World,” “One of Us Is Lying” and “Angelyne” are also slated to be on the service at launch. A potential reboot of “The Office” is on tap, too.
Price: Pricing details will be announced closer to launch.
Why it matters: NBCUniversal’s streaming service will join a crowded market of streaming platforms, which include Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus and Hulu. AT&T’s WarnerMedia will also launch a new streaming service in spring, according to Axios.
Flashback: NBC previously announced it would remove “The Office” from Netflix in 2021 so it could add it to its new streaming service. The company will reportedly pay $100 million per year for “The Office” — which was the most-watched show on Netflix in 2018 — over a five-year period, according to CNBC.
