SALT LAKE CITY — There is plenty of nostalgia floating around college football this season as the sport celebrates its 150th season this year.
As part of its look back on the history of the sport, ESPN released a video recently counting down the top 10 college quarterbacks of all time. Among them was former BYU quarterback Ty Detmer, the former Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Davey O’Brien Award winner who threw for 15,031 passing yards and 121 touchdowns during his Cougar career.
See where he landed on a top 10 list that includes names like Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning, Steve McNair and John Elway:
Detmer was one of several former Cougar greats on hand at BYU this past weekend as the Cougars took on Washington — a 45-19 Huskies win — in a retro-themed throwback game that honored the program’s past.
He joined the BYUtv “Countdown to Kickoff” crew to talk about some of his memories as a Cougar.
“It’s an awesome experience to be back down here and be a part of the crowd and to have those feelings and those emotions come back, somewhat — nothing compared to when you’re playing, but it brings back a lot of great memories,” Detmer told Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler.
