MyKayla Skinner is one step closer to her dream of making the 2020 U.S. Olympic team.

The USA Gymnastics Selection Committee announced Monday afternoon that Skinner, a former and future Utah gymnastics star, will be a member of the 2019 U.S. Women’s World Championship team.

She joins Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Kara Eaker, Sunisa Lee and Grace McCallum on the American team that will compete at the World Championships.

The team was selected on the basis of gymnasts’ overall performances over the course of multiple competitions held this year, including the 2019 American Classic — hosted by the University of Utah — the GK U.S. Classic, the U.S. Championships and various international competitions.

It was at the most recent competition — World Team Selection Camp, which took place over the weekend in Sarasota, Florida — where Skinner had her best performance since she began her comeback to elite gymnastics.

Skinner finished fourth overall in the competition, out of 13 participating gymnasts, with an all-around score of 56.050.

She finished in third place on vault (15.050), fifth on floor exercise (13.850), sixth on uneven bars (13.500) and eighth on balance beam (13.650).

“So proud of this girl!” Lisa Spini, Skinner’s coach at Desert Lights Gymnastics, said on Twitter following the competition. “Getting better all the time and got the job done tonight.”

As for her Red Rocks family, they couldn’t be happier.

“We are thrilled with MyKayla’s berth on the World Championships team,” Utah head coach Tom Farden said in a release. “She once again has proved that her drive is second to none and her hyper-focus has been rewarded.”

Skinner will next compete at the World Championships, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, starting Oct. 4.
