SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is back on the climb in the polls, jumping two spots to No. 17 in this week’s Associated Press and Coaches polls.
The Utes (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) defeated Washington State 38-13 late Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium and earned a bump from the win, with 534 votes in the AP poll and 532 in the Coaches poll.
Utah State (3-1, 2-0 MWC) received 15 votes in the Coaches poll — 11th among “others receiving votes” and good enough for 36th among all teams receiving votes. The Aggies did not receive any votes in the AP poll.
Oregon tops all Pac-12 teams in the polls, at No. 13 in both, while Washington comes in at No. 15 in the AP and No. 16 in the Coaches. Arizona State is No. 20 in the AP poll after knocking off then-No. 15 California over the weekend, dropping the Golden Bears from both polls.
Next Saturday, Utah State takes on LSU, which dropped a spot in both polls this week to No. 5 (AP) and No. 6 (Coaches). The Tigers (4-0) had a bye this past week.
There was a change at the top of both polls, too, as Alabama overtook Clemson for the No. 1 spot in the AP and Coaches polls. The Tigers barely edged North Carolina 21-20 on Saturday, while the Crimson Tide rolled past Ole Miss, 59-31.
