The Taal volcano in the Philippines has erupted, causing a slew of earthquakes across the region and leading to spewing lava and falling ash, according to multiple reports.
What’s going on: Thousands of people have fled from their homes to stay safe from the damage of the volcano, which erupted on Sunday, Slate reports.
Experts expect the worse is yet to come. A level 5 incident — the worst eruption on the entire scale — could still happen, which would put thousands of people in danger.
Authorities are hoping to have more people evacuated. Right now, about 30,000 people have left the area, which has close to 450,000 residents in total, according to multiple reports.
