After being adapted from a hit movie to a Broadway musical, “Mean Girls” is being adapted again — this time from a musical into a movie, Variety reported on Thursday.

Tina Fey, who was behind the 2004 movie as well as the musical adaptation, announced that she will be producing a movie version of the Broadway musical for Paramount Pictures, according to Variety.

“I’m very excited to bring ‘Mean Girls’ back to the big screen,” Fey wrote in a statement, reported by Variety. “It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”

The musical adaptation of “Mean Girls” opened on Broadway in April 2018, and is currently in talks to appear on the West End in London in 2021, according to Playbill.

Fey will be writing the script for the new movie, with Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin (who wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical, according to Playbill) returning to adapt the music for the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“It has been a joy to work on ‘Mean Girls’ and to watch it go from film, to musical, and now to musical film,” said Lorne Michaels, who will be producing the new film with Fey, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I am very proud that Tina’s story and characters continue to resonate with new generations.”

There’s no news yet about casting or when the move will be released, according to Entertainment Weekly.
