We often don’t hear “scripture study,” “international,” and “social media”associated together. But with the new series “Come Follow Up,” BYUtv may have found a winning combination.
Barbara Morgan Gardner, associate professor of Church History and Doctrine at BYU, and Daniel Becerra, assistant professor of Ancient Scripture at BYU, welcome a different guest every week as they take a deeper dive into the concepts and doctrines that correlate with the weekly Come, Follow Me resource.
With participation from the live studio audience, international viewers, and engagement via social media for viewers at home, Come Follow Up is designed to augment viewers’ personal and family study of the Gospel.
Recent guests include Virginia H. Pearce, author, and former member of the general Young Women presidency; Tad R. Callister, former Sunday School general president; Reyna I. Aburto, second counselor in the general Relief Society presidency; and author Tamu Smith.

“Our role is essentially to facilitate a discussion. Like anybody else in the audience, we hope to share some of our experiences,” says Becerra. “On the show, I don’t consider myself to be speaking as a professor or a scriptorian or anything like that. I’m just a normal guy trying to understand the scriptures and learning from other people.”
Gardner adds, “We use our guest and international audiences to collaborate with us, where we’re all learning together, and be able to enhance the scripture study that is taking place in the home and apply those scriptures more beneficially.”
New episodes of “Come Follow Up” air every Sunday morning. Past episodes are available to watch anytime on the BYUtv app.
